iPhone 3G thoughts

Doorstop v.1

Initial reaction

I couldn’t believe it! Have I finally figured out a way to stop the bedroom door from slamming closed?

I could potentially have one of the coolest and most expensive doorstops in the world!

And then the reality set in

iPhone - Zing!

Personally, even though it’s only $199, I simply cannot justify dumping my perfect 1st generation iPhone.

Third generation…

... is going to be a huge hit and a big upgrade. Until then, I’m perfectly happy.

John Gruber said it best:

Today’s message is pretty simple: Apple is going for iPhone market share in a big, big, way.

No front-facing camera. No video from the rear camera. Instead of building a better $400 iPhone, they worked on halving the price of last year’s phone.

I completely agree (bar the doorstop… not cool)!

I only got my iPhone in February, so it’s the 16Gb model anyway. I don’t think that 3G and GPS is enough of a justification for me to upgrade just yet.

Here’s holding out hope for the 3rd gen!

agreed, not enough for me to switch away from my blackberry pearl. No copy and paste and no video are deal breakers for me.

Come on guys, everybody wanted a GPS and 3G : you have it, you can’t say that’s not cool just because it’s not “more” than you expected!

Hopefully, many apps will arrive bringing a hell of a lot possibilites, such as video, ... cheer up!

Yes, GPS is fun and all, but what good is it without text-to-speech? I don’t wanna keep looking at the phone (which keeps constantly locking each minute) while I’m driving in heavy traffic. As for 3G, I’m still a bit skeptical regarding the power requirements. Have they finally solved the problem with the battery dying after an hour or 2 of constant use?

Anyway, I bought my 8 gig iPhone not too long ago, and I am not throwing away the money I spent just ‘cause there’s a newer, cheaper model out there. I got something every technology and software company fears – patience.
